Writing RenderMan shaders
Saty Raghavachary
DreamWorks Animation
This is a five-lecture course on the basics of RenderMan shader-writing which I teach at Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, CA. These notes are primarily intended for use by students who attend the course, but I'm making them available for a wider audience by leaving these web pages up (almost) all the time.

The course begins with an overview of RMan/shading and a quick intro' to RSL, RenderMan's shading language. The next couple of classes deal with a variety of examples of surface, displacement and light shaders and also discuss 'shadeops'. Class #4 presents global illumination shaders and Slim templates. The final class has to do with Slim MEL commands, procedural RIB generation and other misc. topics.
