Installing on OS X

Installation

Double-click on the RenderMan Studio .pkg file to invoke the installer. The installer will take you through the installation process step-by-step. At the end of the installation process, License.App will start up to get your license. For more information on licensing, see the licensing page.

Setting up the Maitre-d

After the installer runs you will need to set up your maitre-d if you want to distribute mayabatch or spooled RIB renders via Alfred. You can do this a number of different ways:

For more information on Alfred and maitre-d, please consult the Alfred documentation.

Additional Information

By default, the software is installed in /Applications/Pixar/RenderManStudio-1.0-Maya8.5. Maya finds the plugin there via a symlink to the RenderMan_for_Maya.module file. The installer places the symlink in the user's Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/8.5/modules directory. If you wish to intall the software in a location other than the default, you will need to update that symlink.

For existing MTOR customers, the plugin is installed in that same Applications directory. The MTOR plugins are now named mtor.bundle and mtorsubdiv.bundle and Maya finds them via the Maya.env. The installer appends the following variables (with their default settings):

	MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH=//Applications/Pixar/RenderMan_Studio-1.0-Maya8.5/bin
	DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=//Applications/Autodesk/maya8.5/Maya.app/Contents/MacOS
	XBMLANGPATH=//Applications/Pixar/RenderMan_Studio-1.0-Maya8.5/lib/mtor/resources

The installer literally appends these variables to your Maya.env, but Maya reads only the first entry in the file, so you will need to delete previous entries in order to have the latest settings used.

MTOR users can find additional important information regarding optimizing the MTOR setup here.
