The RenderMan Studio 1.0 release features significant changes to RenderMan for Maya, Slim, and “it”, but Alfred remains largely the same. We expect, now that Slim and “it” have received their overhauls, Alfred is next on the list, but for the 7.0 release, here is the short list of changes:

• A bug that caused Alfred (and Alfserver) to incorrectly handle /etc/services port numbers has been fixed.
• The BatCave now supports PostgreSQL (version 8.2.0).
• The BatCave is now MySQL 5.0-compliant.
• A new Task -serialsubtasks 1 option has been introduced. This subtask scheduling variant can simplify the scripting of jobs which have distinct sequential "chapters" or phases of actions; such as large or complex "prepare," "render," and "clean-up" phases, each of which consists of several subtasks. This option provides an alternative to coding these phases with elaborate Instance node references.
• The threading behavior of the maitre d has been improved.
