Installing and Licensing on OS X |

If you purchased floating licenses, you must install the license server first. Please skip ahead to the floating license installation section before installing RenderMan for Maya.
Double-click on the RenderMan for Maya .pkg file to invoke the installer. The installer will take you through the installation process step-by-step.
By default, the software is installed in /Applications/Pixar/RenderMan_for_Mayaversion-2.0. Maya finds the plugin there via a symlink to the RenderMan_for_Maya.module file. The installer places the symlink in the user's Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/version/modules directory. If you wish to intall the software in a location other than the default, you will need to update that symlink.
Although the Alfred maitre d' is configured by the installer in Windows versions of RenderMan Studio, the Macintosh installers require the maitre d' to be configured manually. This can be done one of two ways:
set alfConfig(maitredHost) { hostname }
where hostname is the name of your maitre d'.
If you are running your Alfred maitre d' on a Macintosh, the maitre d' service can be started one of two ways:
As part of the installation process a licensing application will be invoked. It will ask you for an Entitlement Serial Number, and your Forum login and password. Enter the information in the appropriate fields (if you use a proxy server, your proxy information should be added as hose:port, e.g. foo.mydomain.com:8080) and click on the Get License button. The application will contact Pixar's servers and download your license to the etc subdirectory of your RenderMan for Maya installation. Once it is done, quit the licensing application and the installer will run to completion.
And you're all set.
Obtaining a new or updated license is simply a matter of running LicenseApp by double-clicking on it in the etc subdirectory of your RenderMan for Maya installation. By default, this location is:
/Applications/Pixar/RenderMan_for_Maya/etcThe program will contact Pixar and download your license to the correct location.
Floating licenses are keyed to a specific machine designated as your license server. If you have purchased floating licenses, you must download the License Server software from the Pixar downloads section. Note, this is a download separate from the RenderMan for Maya download via the online store. The License Server download package for Macintosh OS X is Pixar_License-la_5.0.tgz, which unzips to expose the installer, Pixar_License-la_5.0.pkg.
Please note, your initial license will be timed to expire in approximately 30 days. At that time you can run the LicenseApp program again to get your permanent license.
Now, when you install the RenderMan for Maya software on your artists' machines, you will follow the same steps as for a regular installation, including entering the Entitlement Serial Number and your Forum login and password when LicenseApp asks for them. The license file that is downloaded will point to the machine where you installed the license server, automatically.
Once the installation is completed, you will need to start the license server. The license server is started by a shell script, located in the license-5.0 directory /Applications/Pixar/license-5.0/startlm.sh is the default location, executed via a Terminal window. There are two scripts, one for starting the license service and one for stopping it. Open a Terminal window, cd to to the license-5.0 directory, and type:
./startPixarLicenseServer.shto start the license service. The license server can be stopped using the stopPixarLicenseServer.tcl script, or from your Activity Monitor.
